V PSIJUS International Congress - Coves of Life

25 april 2024

Integrated researchers Carla Galego and Elsa Estrela took part in the 5th PSIJUS International Congress - Enseadas de Vida (Coves of Life), which took place at the José Araújo Auditorium on April 11 and 12.

Organized by PSIJUS-Associação para a Intervenção Juspsicológica, this event prioritized knowledge, reflection and debate, bringing together issues from the fields of justice, psychology, criminology and education.

Elsa Estrela, in her commentary on the lecture given by criminologist Alberto Pintado, bridged the gap between the prison justice system and education in the prison context, stressing the dimension of education as identity reconstruction. In this sense, he highlighted the important role that vocational education has played in the inclusion of young people and young adults in society, and warned of the need to train teachers for these audiences.

Carla Galego, in the context of the panel "Education, Deviant Behavior and the Promotion of Inclusion", reflected on the current understanding of social and educational policies and the role of social educators in building bridges that promote social justice, inclusion and the well-being of all young people, regardless of their circumstances.

We congratulate PSIJUS for including two training grants in its statutes, one of which is aimed at Social Educators.
