The  Working Group-University and higher education policies, integrated in the international network of CLACSO Latin American Council of Social Sciences, aims to develop and expand knowledge in new areas (on the scientific field and in the world spaces) involving Universities and Higher Education Policies.

The WG includes a total of 108 researchers, with a balanced gender representation, belonging (or working) to higher education institutions from 17 different countries, from Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, North America and Europe. The WG includes both researchers who are global references in the fields of Comparative Education and Higher Education Policies, as well as young researchers (master’s and doctoral students) with ongoing research related to the objectives set for the WG.

Research areas

  1. The comparison in education as a political tool versus the comparison of problems from ‘new perspectives’;
  2. Transnationalisation and financialisation of higher education: mapping and dimensions of public /private in different regions and countries;
  3. The “education for everybody” approach in universities and in the higher education. The universities of social movements, popular universities and intercultural universities: the dialogue of hegemonic and counter-hegemonic epistemologies. The problem of the decolonization of higher education.
  4. Universities and teacher training: mapping of training models in Latin America and Europe and of the curricular expressions of these models; analysis of innovative experiences. The academic profession: analysis on the prospects of precariousness in higher education; mapping of initiatives aimed at evaluating the quality of teaching-learning processes in the university context;
  5. Geopolitics of the world knowledge: knowledge society, transnational regulation and local/ global dialectics: trends and governance models of higher education institutions; scientific policies and the circulation of knowledge; validation criteria of academic production and of its circulation: analysis of the editorial oligopoly in science; regionalisms and implications in higher education policies: (i) internationalization, integration and intersectoral policies; (ii) Global South regionalisms and their implications for higher education policies: BRICS,  MERCOSUR and CPLP new experiences of interregional convergence.

  6. Proposal to hold a postgraduate course in Education: António Teodoro (CeiED/Lusófona University, Portugal).
