André Robert

Professeur de philosophie puis formateur d’enseignants dans le second degré pendant une vingtaine d’années, André D. Robert a rejoint l’enseignement supérieur après la soutenance de sa thèse à Paris V-Sorbonne sous la direction de Viviane Isambert-Jamati (Trois syndicats d’enseignants face aux réformes scolaires, 1968-1982). Il a occupé les fonctions de maître de conférences à l’IUFM de Créteil (1991-1995) puis à l’université Rennes 2 (1995-1998) avant d’être nommé professeur à l’ISPEF, université Lumière Lyon 2 (1998), où il avait fait ses premières études de philosophie au début de la décennie 70. De 1999 à 2003, il a été chargé de la rédaction en chef de la Revue française de pédagogie à l’INRP. Président de la commission de spécialistes de sciences de l’éducation de l’ISPEF (2005-2008), responsable des études de master (2004-2008), il a été nommé en 2007 directeur de l’école doctorale EPIC (Education, Psychologie, Information et Communication) n° 485 qu’il dirige encore à ce jour. De 2007 à 2012, il a été directeur pour Lyon 2 du laboratoire Education et Politiques, refondé en 2011 sous le nom Education, Cultures, Politiques, EA n° 4571. En novembre 2011, il a été élu président de la 70e section du Conseil national des Universités.

Ses recherches se situent dans le domaine de la socio-histoire. Ses principaux travaux ont porté et portent spécifiquement sur les politiques éducatives et sur les syndicalismes enseignants, incluant les interactions entre les deux sphères : analyse politique des systèmes éducatifs, principalement du système éducatif français (20e siècle) ; étude des processus de décision, des réformes et de leurs effets ; recherche d’éléments de modélisation concernant le changement dans les systèmes éducatifs, en intégrant l’action des forces sociales et particulièrement celles de la représentation enseignante constituée par son syndicalisme spécifique. Dans le domaine international, ces recherches s’effectuent notamment dans le cadre de l’ISCHE (International Conference for History of Education) où, après avoir animé pendant cinq ans un Standing working group (SWG) consacré à la « grève enseignante» qui a donné matière à plusieurs publications, André D. Robert dirige depuis 2010 un SWG sur « la pensée critique des enseignants et de leurs associations aux temps de la mondialisation ». Il est professeur invité à l’universidade Lusofona de Lisbonne, où il fait partie du conseil scientifique international du laboratoire de Ciençias de Educaçao. Il est régulièrement invité au Brésil dans le cadre de ses recherches sur le syndicalisme.

António Sampaio da Nóvoa

Born in 1954 in Portugal, António Sampaio da Nóvoa is one of the most renowned international experts in the field of Education. His education and academic life have a great deal of international recognition, especially in Europe, North America and Brazil. In addition to his work as a Professor and as a Researcher, he has held important university responsibilities, especially his two terms as Rector of the University of Lisbon. In his last term, he led the merger between the University (Classical) of Lisbon and the Technical University of Lisbon. He also held important public functions, namely as a consultant for the Education of the President of the Portuguese Republic. In 2016, he was a candidate for the elections for President of the Republic, having obtained the second best vote. Since 2018 he has been the ambassador of Portugal to UNESCO.

Carlos Alberto Torres

Carlos Alberto Torres, Professor of Social Sciences and Comparative Education, and former Director of the UCLA-Latin American Center, is a political sociologist of education who did his undergraduate work in sociology in Argentina (B.A. honors and teaching credential in Sociology, Universidad del Salvador), his graduate work in Mexico (M.A. in Political Science, FLACSO) and the United States (M.A. and Ph.D. in International Development Education, Stanford University), and post-doctoral studies in educational foundations in Canada (University of Alberta). He is also the Founding Director of the Paulo Freire Institute in São Paulo, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and UCLA. Dr. Torres has been a Visiting Professor in universities in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa. He has lectured throughout Latin America and the United States, and in universities in England, Japan, Italy, Spain, Tanzania, Finland, Mozambique, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Portugal, Taiwan, Korea, Sweden and South Africa.

Maria Cristina Oliveira Bruno

Bachelor in History, Specialist in Museology, Master in Social History and PhD in Archeology. Since 2010 she has been Professor of Museology at the Museum of Archeology and Ethnology of the University of São Paulo – MAE / USP. Since 1992 she has been responsible for the Museum of Archeology and Ethnology of the University of São Paulo (MAE / USP). He has directed the Museology Service (1992 to 1995), headed the Cultural Diffusion Division (1995 to 1997), coordinating the Specialization Course in Museology (1999 to 2006). She was Deputy Director of MAE / USP (2005 to 2009) and Coordinator of the Post-Graduation Program in Museology of USP (2012 to 2014). She is, since 2012, member of the Postgraduate Committee and, since 2013, Member of the Deliberative Council. Since 2011, she coordinates LAPECOMUS / Research Laboratory in Museological Communication, articulating the research lines: Museological Narratives and Scientific Dissemination and Memory of Museologia Paulista and supervising post-doctoral projects. She is Coordinator of the Research Group / CNPQ – Musealization of Archeology.

Montserrat Pallarès Barberà

Full Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Geography Department. She was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Geographical Analysis. Institute for Quantitative Social Sciences February 2011 to January 2012. Her Ph.D. was in Economic Geography and Location Theory at Boston University. Currently, her research focuses in the intersection between Urban Geography, Geographic Information Systems and Social Well Being.

Pallares has conducted field work in Spain, specifically in Barcelona and the Pyrenees. She started her research in the automobile industry in Spain; in which she did her Ph. D. Dissertation. Her research then moved to different topics within Economic Geography, such as studying economic clusters and spatial loyalty of economic activity in rural areas, area taxonomy, gender and social capital, and new economy in cities.

She is now involved in the study of the relation between urban planning and social well-being, analyzing the provision of services and population in the outstanding classics of urban planning such as Ildefonso Cerdà’s Plan of Urban Expansion of Barcelona. Pallares hold administrative positions in her university; being for some years Vice Rector and Vice Dean at the Universtiat Autònoma de Barcelona.

She usually teaches Economic Geography and Spatial Analysis at graduate and undergraduate courses.

Her most recent publication is a co-authored critical study on social networks as the backbone of women’s work in the Catalan Pyrenees. This is published in European Urban and Regional Studies, in 2017. Other articles and conference presentations are fully documented at her publication list in this website.


Xavier Rambla

Xavier Rambla is Associate Professor of sociology at the Univ. Autònoma de Barcelona (ESP), and was lecturer at the Univ. Vic (ESP, 1995-2001). He has researched globalisation, education and inequalities by leading projects on Education for All in Latin America (2009-2011), as well as on education and anti-poverty policies in the Southern Cone (2006-2008), by collaborating in projects on education and social cohesion in Europe (2003-2005), and by participating in critical co-educational action- research in several regions in Spain (1995-2000). As a visiting lecture, he has taught these topics in a number of European and Latin American universities for short periods. At the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology (UAB), Dr. Rambla has been responsible for strategic planning (2006-2008) and the Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology (2009-2011), and has convened the mixed commission in charge of creating the students’ council (2009-2010). He has also contributed to connect academic research with professional practitioners by collaborating as a consultant with some civil society organisations.
