Cristina Sin is an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University (Porto) and an integrated researcher at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Education and Development since 2022. She obtained her PhD in Education from Lancaster University (UK) in 2012. She has previously worked as a researcher at the Portuguese Agency for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES), between 2017-2022, and as a postdoctoral fellow (funded by FCT) at the Center for Research in Higher Education Policies (CIPES), between 2012-2017. Her career in higher education began before her PhD, in 2005, at the Higher Education Academy (UK), where she managed projects for the improvement of teaching and learning in higher education. She has carried out research on higher education policies, with topics ranging from more general studies of European higher education policies and their implementation (Bologna Process) to specific topics such as international student mobility, employability, equity, quality assurance and inbreeding.

She has participated in national and international projects with competitive public funding and in national studies funded by private foundations on the above-mentioned issues. International student mobility is her main research interest. She was the coordinator of a project, funded by Edulog - Fundação Belmiro de Azevedo, which mapped international students in Portugal and analyzed international recruitment strategies. She has also contributed as a consultant to studies commissioned by national and international organizations, including the evaluation of the Erasmus+ 2014-2020 programme in Portugal, commissioned by the Erasmus+ National Agency. She is a member of two COST Actions: European Network on International Student Mobility (Action CA20115) and Rising nationalisms, shifting geopolitics and the future of European higher education/research openness (Action CA22121). Since January 2021, she has been an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Higher Education.
