Maria Odete Emygdio da Silva
Biographical note
Maria Odete Emygdio da Silva holds a PhD in Education, with an option in Special Education, from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Graduated in Ciências da Educação (Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação, Universidade de Lisboa), she has a Specialized Higher Studies Course in Special Education (Serious Problems of Cognition), (Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa), as well as a Specialization Diploma in Special Education (Intellectual Deficit Functioning), (António Aurélio da Costa Ferreira Institute, in Lisbon). Currently, she is Director of the Master in Special Education at the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, in Lisbon, where she is an Associate Professor, since 2000, and an integrated researcher at the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Education and Development (CeiED) at the same University.
She integrates the research group “Learning, Training and Socio-educational Inclusion” and, within the scope of Research and Learning Communities (ReLeCo), she is co-coordinator of the Center for Studies in Social and Educational Inclusion. She is a member of the Association Francophone Internationale de Recherche Scientifique en Education (AFIRSE) and of the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences. She served in the Ministry of Education and as Coordinator of Education teams.
She is the author and co-author of books and scientific articles, published in Portugal and Brazil, within the scope of Teacher Training, Education, Special Education and Inclusive Education.
