Maria Odete Emygdio da Silva is an Associate Professor and Director of the Master's in Education Sciences - Special Education: Cognitive and Motor Domain, at Universidade Lusófona - Universitary Centre of Lisbon. She is also the Co-coordinator of the Micro-credential in Special Education and Inclusive Education: Conceptualization, Policies and Practices at Universidade Lusófona. She is an Integrated Researcher at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development (CeiED) and a member of ReLeCo - Public Policies and Governance in Education (PPGE) at Universidade Lusófona.

She serves as an expert evaluator for the Inspectorate-General of Education and Science of the Ministry of Education, evaluating School Groups and providing training within the scope of continuous teacher training, certified by the Pedagogical and Scientific Council for Continuous Training since 2002. 

Maria Odete Emygdio da Silva holds a Ph.D. in Education - with a focus on Special Education - from the University of São Paulo (2000), Brazil, and a degree in Education Sciences from the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of Lisbon (1995). She is a specialized teacher in Special Education - specifically in Severe Cognitive Problems and Deficient Intellectual Functioning - certified by the Higher School of Education of Lisbon and the Instituto António Aurélio da Costa Ferreira. She is recognized for her extensive professional experience and competence in the field of Elementary School Teacher Training (1st and 2nd Cycles; Adult Basic Education; Special Education).

She has participated as a researcher in the ReMASE Project: Research Methods in Advanced Studies in Education, funded by FCT EXPL/CED-EDG/1130/2021 (2022-23). She is a member of the Scientific Committees of various scientific events and belongs to AFIRSE and the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences. She is the author of books and scientific articles within her areas of interest.
