Abstract
The Brazilian prison system is a subject of intense debate in the current national situation, because an internal crisis has been installed in the world of prison, which is aggravated by the intensified overcrowding, culminating in the terrible conditions of habitability, which affects the quality of life. of prisoners. Other aspects that directly involve life in prison stand out: the disrespect for Human Rights, the slowness of justice and the possibilities of escapes and rebellions in prisons. The study addresses the Penal System and its reality, analyzing the application of the assistance provided for in the Penal Execution Law (LEP) No. 7,210 of 1984, especially education based on field research at the Metropolitan State Prison I (PEM I) an attempt is made to speak extensively about the issue of prison education. The theory exposes the legal standards of a prison establishment, but in practice it is almost nothing equivalent to what the Law prescribes. The general objective: To understand the application of the Criminal Execution Law (LEP) No. 7,210 of 1984 in the process of resocialization in especially with regard to educational assistance to the inmates of the Metropolitan State Prison I. The research is based on a case study, where through quantitative and qualitative methods, research techniques of documentary investigation, questionnaire inquiry, observation are used. , emphasizing the experience in the penal house the interactivity with the technicians of the institution and with the inmates, as object of the study, during the research period.
