Abstract

In the context of the National Study of Literacy Project 25 years later, the author proposes to conduct a monograph, articulated with the first study that is carried out in Portugal, 25 years after the publication in 1996 of the first National Study of Literacy coordinated by the Social Science Institute of the University of Lisbon, according to a protocol made with the National Education Council and the C. Gulbenkian Foundation, called Literacy in Portugal. Results of an extensive and monographic research, coordinated by Ana Benavente. It is intended to deepen, by ensuring methodological options centered on geographical space and age, the current situation of adult profiles that were at the time of the first study in level 1 of literacy, including people with different degrees of education, namely those who do not have complete schooling, those who hold the primary, the high and the higher education, age levels between 15 and the 64 years. In this context, the author considers it most important to analyze in the light of current society the results obtained and to deepen the changes that occurred in groups with specific social characteristics and in particular sociocultural contexts. For this reason, it is a qualitative study of a monographic nature that will use the materials that allowed to establish the levels of literacy, reviewed and will be articulated with these study, highlighting eventual stays and new exclusions in socio-cultural contexts determined.
