1. Public Policies and Governance in Education

The ReLeCo Public Policies and Governance in Education [PPGE] object and objective is to study public policies in education and teaching, including those on social and educational inclusion, from their broadest perspective, in the various education and teaching systems (from early intervention to higher and lifelong education). The aim is to investigate their transformation, the impacts or effects on educational institutions/organisations and their players, as well as the associated social, economic and political issues. Inherently, it encompasses the analysis of educational systems, models and institutions; models and processes of governance, management and organisation of educational systems and institutions/organisations; and evaluation and quality assurance.

The ReLeCo PPGE is structured around three main levels or axes of analysis:

  • Macro: of educational policies and reforms;
  • Meso: educational organisations/institutions and intra-, inter- and extra-institutional dynamics;
  • Micro: the actors in educational organisations/institutions.

The ReLeCo PPGE prioritises a transversal and multidisciplinary theoretical-conceptual and methodological approach, with an emphasis on comparative education, based on a critical-reflexive appreciation of similarities/affinities, complementarities and differences/distances in the field of education and the interrelationships between education and society.
