The Association of European Universities held its annual thematic workshop on the theme of "Leadership in and for doctoral education" on 1-2 February at Charles University in Prague, attended by delegates from various universities based in Europe.

At the event, various questions were debated about the problem of leadership in doctoral education in Europe, with the understanding that doctoral graduates could occupy relevant positions, taking on a role as protagonists of change in a world of accelerated transformation.

It was clear to those present that despite the specificities of each country and university, the problems are similar, embodied in the weak approach to leadership issues in doctoral courses, the poor training offer for supervisors and the role of the administration in guiding policies and funding for doctoral programmes.

Given the growing multicultural environment in European doctoral schools, the need to reflect on intercultural leadership was emphasised in order to guarantee better inclusion for foreign doctoral students. CeiED was present with the participation of PhD student Felisberto Kiluange Costa.
