On January 26, an audio interview with Professor António Teodoro on the shortage and ageing of teachers was published on the TSF website, when the "State of Education" report was issued.
António Teodoro suggests that positive discrimination measures should be taken, with a view to tackling the imbalance between the number of teachers who start their careers and those who finish them. He suggests that such measures would encourage young people from ethnic minorities to join the teaching profession.
In his speech, António Teodoro addresses other issues, such as reducing the number of pupils failing or dropping out of school, and social cohesion within education.
