"The Construction of Teachers' Knowledge and Professional Identities in the Context of Globalization"

This article aims to analyse new ways of constructing teachers' identities, marked by the process of globalization and its impact on education, considering the place occupied by 'knowledge', due to the occurrence of some concern about current educational policies. A mixed methodological approach was used to collect data, in a geographical area known as "Porto", through the application of a questionnaire to secondary school economics and accounting teachers and semi-directive interviews with key informants in the professional and educational field.

Analysis of the questionnaire data shows that identity configurations vary according to gender, basic training, length of service (age) and type of professional placement. The analysis of the interviews, in turn, reveals that the personal development of teachers is a central issue for education and the education system, and the participants identified ways of constructing new identity configurations.
