André D. Robert is an educator, professor emeritus of educational sciences at the French University of Lyon-II. He is a specialist in educational policies, teacher unionism, and professional teacher identity. Since 2003 he has been an invited professor in Lusófona University and has been collaborating in different Brazilian universities (USP, Uninove, UFOP).

Member of the Scientific Committee of REDE ASTE. In 2017, he was Elected Invited Professor in Tunisia (Young researchers Hammamet colloquiums). President of HIMASE (Histoire des Militants associatifs et syndicalistes enseignants) since 2023. Coordinator of the research funded by CNRS (RTP Education) “Scientific paradigms and school democratisation policies”.

André Robert holds a PhD in Sociology of Education from the University of Paris-Descartes in 1989. Throughout 1991 and 1998 he was Professor in different French universities (UPEC Créteil, Rennes 2) and in 1998 he became a Full Professor at University of Lyon-II, founding and directing the Research Unity ECP (Education, Cultures, Politics, Lyon 2, UJM, ENS) in 2010. Director of Doctoral School EPIC Lyon 2, Lyon 1, Lyon 3 (Education, Psychology, Communication, 2007-2016).

Throughout 2011 and 2015 he was Elected President of CNU 70 (Conseil National des Universites, Educational Sciences) and Coordinator of a ANR project (funded by Agence Nationale de la Recherche), with collaboration of investigators from Québec (codirection with Alain Kerlan).

In 2015 he gained the status of  “exceptional class Professor”. Director of a “ Structure Fédérative de Recherches en Education” at the regional level (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 2015-2017). International member of research projects funded by FCT (e.g. project INOVAR driven by Joaquim Pintassilgo, University of Lisbon, 2016-2019).

Editor in chief of Revue Française de Pédagogie (main French journal in Educational Sciences), between 1999 and 2003. Leader of three successive international standing working groups in ISCHE (International Standing Conference for History of Education), participating in each annual conference (2002-2021).
