CeiED researchers lead SPCE session on recommendations for the use of generative AI in Education
The Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences (SPCE), through its Curriculum and Digital Technologies Reflection and Research Group, is holding an open online session on Thursday, 8 October, from 5.30pm to 7.00pm (Lisbon time), dedicated to sharing recommendations for the use of generative artificial intelligence in Education, with a focus on Higher Education.
The session is supported by CeiED's Public Science Forum. The highlight of the session is the keynote by Professor João Filipe Matos, a CeiED researcher, entitled "What do I do now? Recommendations for the use of AI in Education – Higher Education". In response to the need for a practical, well-founded answer to the challenges that generative AI now poses for education, and for higher education institutions in particular, the keynote draws on three foundational documents on the subject, published in June 2026.
It aims to substantiate a set of recommendations organised across three complementary levels of action: that of the institutions themselves, that of programme directors, and that of teaching staff, at the level of the Course Unit Syllabus. Particular emphasis will be placed on academic integrity and the assessment of learning, among other dimensions that are sensitive in teaching practice.
By way of introduction, there will be two short presentations. Gorete Pereira and Paula Cristina Lopes will present a training activity developed at the University of Madeira, as part of the Centre of Excellence for Pedagogical Innovation in Higher Education – SAPIEN. André Freitas, a CeiED researcher, will present the results of the research project "Inclusive Digital Education: Reflective Practices in Digital Ethics".
