COFAC, Cooperativa de Animação e Formação Cultural CRL/Lusófona University, announces a call for applications for a Post-Doctoral Researcher Fellowship position in the scope of CeiED's - Interdisciplinary Research Center for Education and Development -  participation in the international research project “European youth in education and in transition to the labour market” (EDU-LAB) funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Programme (Grant Agreement # 101177428).

Candidates’ Profiles

This call will select candidates for one Post-Doctoral Researcher Fellowship position with the following scientific profile:

  • Expert in Social Sciences, Education Sciences, with an interest in participatory research methods;
  • Good command of the Portuguese and the English language. Candidates are expected to clearly express themselves in both languages, orally and in writing.
  • Publications in national and/or international journals;
  • Previous experience in scientific research projects, preferably in the scope of young people’s education and training pathways and transitions, and early labour market integration;
  • Experience in the use of qualitative research methodologies.

Selected Candidates’ Responsibilities

The selected researcher will have the following responsibilities:

  1. To participate in all research-related activities of the EDU-LAB project in which CeiED’s team is involved.
  2. To support CeiED’s research team in all coordination activities of the Work Package led by Lusófona University.
  3. To actively contribute to the production of international, peer-reviewed publications and the organization of events (e.g., consortium meetings, webinars).

Applicable Legislation and Regulations

Portuguese Law nº 40/2004, of August 18 (Scientific Research Fellow Statute) and following amendments; FCT’s (National Agency for Science and Technology) Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources, and Regulations for Fellowships at the Lusófona University.

Workplace

Research will be performed at the CeiED facilities in Porto, Portugal. Successful candidate is expected to move to Porto, Portugal for the duration of the contract.

Duration of the Contract

The Fellowship will last 12 months, starting preferably in March 2026 and will have a trial period of 6 months. The Fellowship contracts may be extended for equal or different periods, until the end of the project.

Benefits

Monthly Stipend:

The monthly stipend 1 851,00 euros according to the Regulation for Fellowships at the Nacional Agency FCT. The payment of the Voluntary Social Insurance and the Personal Accident Insurance adds up to this amount (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/Tabela_Valores_SMM_LOE_2021.pdf)

Eligibility criteria

Requirements

  1. Having been awarded a PhD degree in the Social Sciences, or Education Sciences (defence process finalized) before the deadline.
  2. Research interests in young people’s education and training pathways and transitions, and early labour market integration.
  3. PhD degree obtained in the three years before the application deadline.
  4. PhD thesis hosted by a different Host Institution, other than Lusófona University.

Applicants with an academic degree and diploma issued by a foreign Higher Education Institution must present proof of recognition of the academic degree by the Portuguese Higher Education System (law DL66/2018). Any candidate without the recognition of her/his degree will be admitted to the competition. Should that candidate be selected, she/he will need to provide proof of the recognition of her/his academic degree by the Portuguese authorities before signing the contract.

The selected candidate will have to deliver the recognition of the degree within 15 days after the communication of the application results. After 15 days, the selection committee may decide to:

  1. Extend the deadline for the candidate to prove the recognition;
  2. Assign the position to another candidate;
  3. Or not fill the position.

Applications must include:

  1. Presentation/Motivation letter in Portuguese or English (max. 2 pages);
  2. Curriculum Vitae of max. 5 pages, in Portuguese or English, highlighting the items most relevant to the topic of the call;
  3. Copy of qualification certificates and other relevant documents for eligibility purposes (applicants need to have a PhD degree by the deadline of this call). If, for the duration of the application period, the applicant does not have proof of recognition of their academic degree by the Portuguese Higher Education System (law DL66/2018), they must submit a declaration of honour committing themselves to deliver the recognition of the degree within 15 days after the communication of the application results.
  4. electronic copy of the PhD dissertation and 2 relevant publications.

Selection process

Applicants will be selected based on their scientific merit (30%), curricular path (30%), previous experience in scientific projects (15%) and presentation/motivation letter (10%). The best-positioned applicants will be short-listed for an interview, designed to assess each applicant’s potential contribution to the research project. The interview will weigh 15% in the final score. For Portuguese-speaking candidates, the interview will be conducted in English. For English-speaking candidates, the interview will be conducted in Portuguese. For candidates who speak a different language, the interview will be conducted both in Portuguese and in English. The scale applied to each criterion is 0 to 10.

The curricular assessment will account for 75% of the final grade, and the interview for 25%. If the selection committee decides not to conduct interviews, the curricular assessment will correspond to 100% of the final grade.

The selection committee reserves the right to not select any applicants for the position if applications do not meet the necessary standards and/or profiles in terms of absolute merit.

Form of publication/notification of results: candidates will be notified of the results of the competition via email and the ordered list of candidates will be posted on the CeiED’s Website (https://www.ceied.ulusofona.pt).
