ESA RN27 Midterm Conference

3 and 6 september 2025

The ESA RN27 Midterm Conference will take place between 3 and 6 September 2025 in Chania (Crete), Greece, under the theme ‘Social Inclusion, Belonging and Justice in Times of Uncertainty’. Organised by the Department of Geography at Harokopio University of Athens, with the support of the Hellenic Sociological Association (HSS), the event will take place at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh).

The conference aims to discuss the effects of globalisation, austerity and the political, social and environmental crises on the principles of inclusion, belonging and social justice, especially in the European and southern European context. In a scenario marked by accumulated uncertainties, we welcome proposals that explore, theoretically or empirically, current social dynamics at different scales and with different methodological approaches - from social resilience and inequalities to exclusion, mobilities, identities and public policies.

The call for papers is open to contributions from sociologists, social scientists and researchers from interdisciplinary fields, with special encouragement for the participation of academics from neighbouring Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries.
