XVII Ibero-American Congress on the History of Latin American Education (CIHELA)
4 to 6 August 2027
The XVII Ibero-American Congress on the History of Latin American Education (CIHELA) will take place from 4 to 6 August 2027 at the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences of the National University of La Plata (Argentina).
Since its first edition, held in Bogotá in 1992, CIHELA has established itself as one of the leading academic events in the field of the History of Education. For more than three decades, it has fostered scholarly exchange among Ibero-American researchers while contributing to the development of research networks, scientific societies, and publishing initiatives in the field.
The 2027 edition, themed "Democracies, Citizenship, and Education: Political and Cultural Disputes in the History of Ibero-American Education," will explore the role of historical-educational perspectives in understanding the challenges facing contemporary democracies and the historical processes that have shaped educational systems across the region.
The scientific programme will feature paper sessions, thematic panels, keynote lectures, workshops, book presentations, and working groups covering topics such as migration, childhood and youth, teacher education, citizenship, sexualities, school heritage, archives, digital humanities, and the use of artificial intelligence in historical-educational research.
The organising committee invites the submission of extended abstracts and pre-organised panels by 15 August 2026. Notification of acceptance is scheduled for 1 October 2026.
Further information on submission guidelines, registration, and the scientific programme is available from the organising committee at
