Reimagining Our Futures Together

Proceedings Book of the 13th Researchers' Meeting (PT)

In 2021, UNESCO launched the global report of the International Commission on the Futures of Education, Reimagining Our Futures Together: A New Social Contract for Education, which was developed from a global participatory process, engaging people from various social sectors about the role of knowledge and learning in building possible futures for humanity.

Among the key discussion points in the final text, there is a strong appeal for research and innovation as catalysts in the process of building a new social contract for education.

The new research agenda for education, as suggested by the report, should be based on the principles of the right to quality and equitable education for all throughout life and the defense of education as a common good. It is expected to chart pathways informed by the vectors of change arising from a planet at risk, the potential and risks of digital technologies, democratic backsliding, and uncertainties regarding work and livelihoods.

It is also expected to be interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral, and intercultural, engaging other fields such as the learning sciences; other arenas beyond academia; other forms of knowledge beyond those of the Global North; and to critically use big data while avoiding reductionism. Additionally, it should be capable of developing and adapting policies and programs in collaborative networks and diverse learning environments, as well as evaluating them based on a collaborative ethic.

The ambition of such an agenda invites us to critically analyze the possibilities of its realization and the current directions of the research we are developing at CeiED. What futures do we want to build? How are we building them?

From this context, we invite the entire CeiED academic community—undergraduate students, master’s students, doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, researchers, and professors—to collectively reflect on these issues during the 13th CeiED Research Meeting.
