The 16th CeiED Researchers’ Meeting took place on 9 and 10 July 2026 at Lusófona University, in Lisbon, bringing together researchers, doctoral students and members of the scientific community in a space for sharing, reflection and interdisciplinary dialogue.

This year’s edition focused on the theme “Diversity in Doctoral Education: Subjects, Contexts and Epistemic Pluralism in the Production of Scientific Knowledge”. The event invited a broad reflection on contemporary challenges in research, doctoral education, and the development of more plural, inclusive and socially engaged forms of knowledge production.

In the opening session, CeiED Director António Teodoro highlighted the importance of doctoral education as a space for critical dialogue, advocating for a "knowledge democracy" grounded in diversity of perspectives, academic freedom, and the public responsibility of science.

One of the central moments of the Meeting was the keynote lecture by the philosopher Mogobe Ramose, Professor at the University of South Africa, internationally recognised for his contribution to African philosophy and as one of the leading thinkers behind the global dissemination of Ubuntu philosophy. His presentation, entitled “Romanus Pontifex, indigenous African languages and King Alfonso V: an ubu-ntu critique”, offered a critical reflection on epistemic justice, decolonial thought, African philosophical traditions and intercultural dialogue.

Mogobe Ramose’s participation was particularly significant in the context of a doctoral community marked by diverse academic paths, scientific fields and geographical backgrounds, including a substantial number of students from Portuguese-speaking African countries, namely Cape Verde, Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique. His presence therefore represented a highly meaningful intellectual contribution to the debate on the value of different traditions of thought and the recognition of the plurality of subjects, contexts and epistemologies in scientific research.

Over the two days, the programme also included parallel sessions, where ongoing research projects were presented and discussed, promoting scientific exchange among researchers at different stages of their academic careers. These sessions helped deepen debates around CeiED’s research lines, reinforcing the collaborative, critical and interdisciplinary dimension that characterises the Centre.
