António Teodoro’s Presentation at the VI WCCES Symposium Now Available

The video of António Teodoro’s presentation, entitled

“The Global Governance of Education: Where We Stand and New Research Questions in Comparative Education,” is now available on the CeiED YouTube channel.

The presentation was delivered during the closing conference of the VI World Council of Comparative Education Societies Symposium (VI WCCES Symposium) — an international event of major scientific relevance that brought together researchers, academics, and experts from various countries to discuss contemporary challenges and future perspectives for education in a global context.

In his presentation, António Teodoro offered a critical analysis of the role of international organizations, particularly the OECD, in shaping the global education agenda and of the growing influence of “governing by numbers” mechanisms such as PISA in the formulation of public education policies. He also reflected on the democratic and epistemological implications of this trend, warning against the risks of a technocratic and economistic vision of education. As an alternative, he advocated for a humanistic and democratic education, inspired by concepts such as the ethics of subjectification (Biesta), the pedagogy of resonance (Rosa), and education as a global common good (UNESCO), capable of promoting social justice, intercultural dialogue, and sustainability.

The session was moderated by Nuno Fraga, coordinator of SPCE-SEC, and was attended by an international audience deeply engaged in the discussion on the role of education in building more just and sustainable societies.

The presentation was delivered in Portuguese, and the full video is available on the CeiED YouTube channel, here.
