CeiED researcher João Filipe Matos coordinated the team responsible for the Evaluation Study of the Digital Textbooks Project in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, carried out in partnership with researchers from the University of Lisbon’s Institute of Education. Conducted between April 2025 and September 2026, the study assessed the implementation of the project among teachers, students, parents and guardians, and school leadership teams, complemented by an analysis of 12 case studies.

The findings show that the project has produced significant gains in terms of material conditions, access to equipment and digital literacy, while also identifying challenges related to the pedagogical appropriation of digital resources, teacher training, support for families, and monitoring the project’s impact on learning. The report also presents a set of recommendations aimed at strengthening the project’s pedagogical dimension and sustainability.

The evaluation therefore highlights the importance of accompanying digital transformation in education with evidence-based research capable of supporting decision-making and the improvement of educational practices.
