CeiED Researcher Elsa Estrela Featured in International Dialogue on Narrative Leadership in Évora

On 20 March 2026, the University of Évora (CIEP-UE) hosted an event dedicated to reflecting on the lives and work of teachers. The event featured the participation of Elsa Estrela, a CeiED researcher

specialising in curriculum policies and educational governance, and a professor at the Institute of Education of Lusófona University. The gathering fostered an international dialogue with Ivor Goodson, a global pioneer in the study of life histories and narrative learning, and a renowned researcher in the field of educational policies.

The event challenged traditional management paradigms with the aim of restoring the "human aspect" to school governance. During the main conference, titled The Narrative Approach to Leadership: Capital, Identity, and Meaning-Making, the debate focused on how leaders can move beyond being mere "office holders" to become genuine "meaning-makers". The CeiED researcher's perspective complemented that of Ivor Goodson, drawing on sociological frameworks to understand how stories and narratives function as a vital form of institutional capital.

The programme also included the workshop Researching the Teacher's Life and Work, an intensive and practical session led by the two researchers and aimed at doctoral students and other academic researchers.
