The Scientific Director of CeiED – the Interdisciplinary Centre for Education and Development, Professor António Teodoro

, published an opinion article in the newspaper Público on 10 February 2026, entitled “Education: the commitment democracy is lacking”, in which he offers a critical reflection on the role of education in the consolidation of contemporary democratic societies.

In the article, the author examines the gap between the rhetorical recognition of the centrality of education and the fragility of political, institutional and social commitment to genuinely democratic educational policies.
