The Global Innovation Network for Teaching and Learning (GINTL) is a network in which Finnish higher education institutions with partners from India, China, and Africa, jointly create research-based solutions to global educational challenges and collaborate in research and education. The network is one of the nine Global Networks in the Internationalisation Programme (2021–2024) of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland and offers a gateway for research-based education cooperation with partners from the Global South. The University of Helsinki coordinates GINTL Africa.

During the month of October, the University of Helsinki will hold several activities open to all interested in joining discussions and sharing their work on African-specific topics relating to the work of GINTL. On Tuesday, October 3, from 9:00-10:00 (Finnish time; 7:00-8:00, Lisbon time) the October GINTL Coffee Chat will take place. Satu-Maarit Korte is the guest speaker. She will share her experience on the project Global Media Education through Development of Online Teaching (GloMEd) and the UNESCO/UNITWIN network which concentrates on teacher education for social justice and diversity. The event is online and in English, and all interested in joining are welcome – teachers, students, researchers, as well as others interested in the field of education. Simultaneously, AfriStadi – Africa Research Forum for Social Sciences and Humanities organizes for the first time Black History Month at the University of Helsinki. Black History Month was designed as a platform for disseminating societally relevant Africa research in Finland and the Nordic countries. You can find more information about the events planned here.
