João Filipe Matos is lead researcher for external evaluation in the Azores
1 april 2025
The first external evaluation of the use of digital textbooks in the Azores has already been awarded to COFAC - Cooperativa de Formação e Animação Cultural da Universidade Lusófona, with Professor João Filipe Matos as the lead researcher.
Four years after the implementation of digital textbooks in the region, this study aims to analyse the impact of their use, involving teachers, students, school managers and parents. The preliminary results will be released by the end of the year and could influence future government decisions on the continuity and evolution of this initiative.
The study comes in a context in which digital textbooks have been implemented in almost all levels of education in the Azores, with the exception of the first cycle and the 11th and 12th grades. The evaluation will make it possible to understand the challenges and benefits of this transition to digital, providing essential data for defining more effective educational policies.
This initiative reinforces Lusófona University's commitment to research and innovation in the education sector, contributing to an informed reflection on the future of digital teaching resources.
