As a participant in the Doctoral Sandwich Program, an initiative of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES),

under the Ministry of Education (MEC) of Brazil, doctoral student Flávio Figueredo Santos, from the Postgraduate Program in Scientific Education and Teacher Training at the State University of Southwest Bahia (Brazil), has begun his research period at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Education and Development (CeiED), under the supervision of Bento Cavadas.

His research project, entitled “Educational curriculum policies for science teaching in secondary education in Portugal and Brazil: approaches and similarities in the 21st century”, aims to understand curriculum policies for science education in secondary schools in both countries, analysing relationships, convergences, and similarities between these educational contexts in the 21st century.

The work plan, which will last nine months (from October 2025 to June 2026), includes the following activities: literature review; analysis of science education curriculum documents, with emphasis on the subjects of Biology and Geology; development of a semi-structured interview guide to be applied to in-service teachers; participation in visits to supervised teaching practice sessions; collaboration in science teacher training activities; and dissemination of research findings in academic journals and scientific events.

The contacts that made the partnership with CeiED possible resulted from the initiative of Professor Talamira Taita Rodrigues (UESB), in collaboration with Professor António Teodoro, who recommended Professor Bento Cavadas to supervise the doctoral student’s research stay in Portugal.
