RESULTS | "Summer with Science" - Scholarship Allocation Competition

In the context of the launch of the Economic and Social Stabilization Program (PEES) following the COVID-19 pandemic, and the valorization of existing scientific, technological, and academic capacity in Portugal and its relationship with society, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES), granted special support, "Summer with Science," to integrated R&D and higher education initiatives that contribute to the process of economic and social stabilization through higher qualification to be developed in the Summer of 2020. As part of this initiative, Lusófona University opens a competition for the award of ten (10) research scholarships for the summer course "Science Schools: challenges, post-pandemic opportunities," to be held between July 27 and October 30, 2020.
Hosting Institutions for R&D Training
CeiED - Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Education and Development and CICANT - Center for Applied Communication Research.
Beneficiaries
Students and young people who meet the conditions to be research scholarship holders (articles 5 and 6 of the FCT Scholarship Regulation).
Proposals must be submitted to the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Education and Development - CeiED, by filling out the appropriate form in Portuguese. Students, to apply for FCT research scholarships, must include the indication of the responsible for research training, the hosting institution, and a summary work plan, as well as the training course to be attended, with the support realization subject to confirmation of acceptance in "Science Schools" by the involved hosting institutions.

Application Period
from July 13 to 11:59 pm, Lisbon time, on July 21, 2020.
Publication/Notification of Results
The final results of the evaluation will be published on the websites of the Hosting Institutions - CeiED and CICANT.
Funding
The scholarships will be funded for a period of 3 months, with no possibility of renewal.
Monthly Maintenance Allowance
The scholarship amount is €798.00 according to the table of scholarship values awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country.
Selection Methods
The selection of candidates will be carried out by a jury composed of Dr. Carla Galego - President, Dr. Lucimar Dantas, and Mr. Fernando Catarino, based on the evaluation of the Work Plan.
Legal Framework
The supports to be granted are financed under the Special Support Regulation of FCT, published in the Official Gazette through Notice No. 11367/2010, of May 28, and the Regulation of FCT's Research Scholarships, and the Regulation of Granting Study Scholarships to Higher Education Students (order No. 5404/2017, 2nd series, of June 21).
Summer Course - Science Schools: challenges, post-pandemic opportunities
Module I - Organization of Science in Portugal: i) Science and Society: 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, ii) Scientific policy, iii) National Open Science Policy, iv) Organization of science in Research Centers, v) National and international research networks.
Module II - Ethical Issues in Social Sciences: i) Ethical Issues in Research and Knowledge Production, ii) Ethical Issues in Works and Publications, iii) Ethics Codes in Universities, iv) Academic Fraud: its nature and forms it can take.
Module III - Science and Public Science: challenges and possibilities post Covid-19: i) Science and Public Science, ii) Creativity and Innovation of Science in the Context of Social Isolation, iii) Science, Technology and Social Development; iv) Public Science and social media - complementary in social responsibility.
Module IV - Scientific Writing - Issues, Practices, and Dissemination: i) Thinking about writing, ii) Typologies of Scientific Writing, iii) Bibliography, Research Sources, iv) Scientific Dissemination.
Module V - Project Applications and Management: i) Funding Agencies in Portugal and in Europe, ii) Application Processes, iii) Project Language, iv) Scientific and Project Management Component, v) Integration of individual issues into institutional projects.
Module VI - Communication of Social Science: challenges, opportunities, and post-pandemic: i) Introduction to science communication and its different paradigms, ii) Science communication in research careers and in organizations, iii) Different types of science communication, iv) Different stakeholders of scientific activity and science communication, v) The increasing importance of digital communication in science communication, and Science communication through social networks, vi) Science communication through the media, vii) Creativity in science communication, viii) Evaluation of science communication activities, ix) Success stories in science communication (Guest Researcher).
R&D Training (On-site Activities)
Student R&D training will take place within the framework of ongoing projects in the UID's of this application. Each module will last approximately 2 weeks, divided into 3 components: training, internship, and independent work.
