On January 6, 2024, the Bordalo Pinheiro Museum hosted a session where students from the Lusófona University Master's Degree in Visual Arts Teaching showed and handled artist's books.

The students commented on their artist's books, made using various printing techniques, as part of the Artistic Expression curricular unit, under the responsibility of teachers Rita Carvalho and Inês Marques. Considering the current climate crisis and taking as their motto Rachel Carson's groundbreaking book Silent Spring, which confronts us with the possible disappearance of birds from our habitat, the students were asked to choose a bird that they saw on a daily basis.

Based on extensive research - scientific, artistic, musical, literary - into their chosen bird, each student made their own artist's book. Particular attention was paid to the bird's song: after recording the sound, the song was translated verbally and graphically through an onomatopoeia. The onomatopoeia, printed with movable type, is the common denominator of all these artist's books, which offer various visual narratives about the birds to which they pay homage.

The session was attended by several students and teachers from the Master's Degree in Arts Teaching and by representatives of the National Arts Plan.
