Workshop “Museology, Education and Accessibility”
11 May 2023

The Workshop “Museology, Education and Accessibility” was held on 19 and 20 April 2023 at IPLUSO – Instituto Politécnico da Lusofonia.
The event was the first in the series of workshops of the Project “Museu de Tiflologia de Castelo de Vide: Educational Resources for Inclusion and Citizenship“, winner of the 12th Ibermuseums Prize for Education, which is carried out by the Living Experience Centre – Museum of Typhlology, with the general coordination of the Nossa Senhora da Esperança Foundation, and has as official partners the Museology Department of the Lusófona University, the UNESCO Chair “Education, Citizenship and Cultural Diversity”, LUME – Culture and Heritage Association and the Research Centre in Typhlology of Castelo de Vide.
The Workshop included formal presentations by the project coordinators and members of the Organising Committee, followed by talks by the speakers Patrícia Roque Martins and Paulo Reis Simões, who deepened the debate with the mediation of the “Sociomuseology and Cultural Accessibility” Study Group.
The discussions brought several points regarding accessibility, in order to promote meetings between academia, technicians, social movements and other interested groups.
The second day of the workshop began with presentations coordinated by the members of the Organizing Committee, which dealt with audiodescription and universal design. After the presentations, groups were organized with the participants to deepen the discussions based on a case study. The Workshop discussed the necessary openness of institutions to diversity, the valorisation of poetic and multisensory aspects, observation as a means of evaluating activities, the valorisation and effective participation of professionals with disabilities and the fight against capacitism.
The record of the activities and discussions will serve as a general, conceptual and terminological guide for the development of the next workshops, and can be accessed here.
More information about the Project and next workshops will be available here.
