Isabel Cristina Machado de Lara holds a Post-Doctorate in Science and Mathematics Education from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). She completed her PhD and Master's degrees in Education at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics (UFRGS). She is currently a permanent professor in the Postgraduate Program in Science and Mathematics Education and an adjunct professor at the Polytechnic School at PUCRS.

She coordinates the Study and Research Group in Ethnomathematics (GEPEPUCRS), the Study and Research Group on Developmental Dyscalculia (GEPEDPUCRS) and the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Studies and Research on Mathematics, Learning and Technology (LEPIMAT).

She was the coordinator of the International Network of Ethnomathematics (RedINET) for the Southern Region of Brazil, in the 2022-2024 term. He gives lectures, workshops and mini-courses, working mainly on the following topics: current trends in teaching Mathematics; Ethnomathematics; Mathematical Modeling; History of Mathematics; Learning difficulties and disorders in Mathematics; Problem Solving; Use of games.

Among the projects developed, the following stand out: those focused on the study of different forms of mathematizing present in different cultural, labor and social groups and those associated with Inclusive Education, in particular related to pedagogical interventions and the use of Virtual Reality applications for students with Developmental Dyscalculia, Cerebral Palsy or Visual Impairment.
