

Marcelo Murta
Marcelo Lages Murta is a researcher at CeiED – Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Education and Development, under the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) (6th edition). He holds a PhD in Museology from Universidade Lusófona (2021), a Master’s degree in International Cooperation and Development from the University of Cantabria, a postgraduate degree in Cultural Management from Centro Universitário Una, and a Bachelor's degree in History from the Federal University of Minas Gerais.
His research focuses on cultural policies, museology, cultural heritage, and international cooperation, with an emphasis on the dynamics between global cultural governance and local impacts. At CeiED, he is developing the project "Multilateral Cultural Policies and their Local Impacts: perspectives from Portugal towards Cultural Heritage issues within International Organisations", critically analysing the role of international organisations, including themes such as contested heritage, colonial legacies, and cultural diplomacy.
He is a visiting professor at Universidade Lusófona, where he teaches Cultural Policies and Museology in the Master's and Doctoral programmes. With over 15 years of experience, he articulates his academic practice with international consultancy, having collaborated with organisations such as UNESCO, UNDP, OEI, and the European Commission. He was also a visiting researcher at the Institute for Global Law and Policy at Harvard Law School (2022–2023) and serves as an active member of international networks (ICOM, ICOMOS, ACHS, MINOM), maintaining a commitment focused on the relationship between cultural heritage, public policies, and sustainable development.
