Marta Maria Jecu

Marta Jecu is assistant researcher at CeiED, Universidade Lusofona, Lisbon and invited assistant professor at ESAD University of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. She has been working in the past 3 years at the research labs Imera Aix Marseille University and at Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, Paris. Before she has been integrated researcher at CICANT, Universidade Lusofona, Lisbon.

She has obtained her PhD at Free Universitaet Berlin. She has published in academic journals and magazines like: Journal of Curatorial Studies /Routledge, Journal of Visual Art Practice/ Routledge, The Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernism, Pidgin Magazine/Princeton University, E-Flux, Kaleidoscope, Berlin Art Link, Esse Arts + Opinions and in various books.

In 2017 she has initiated the research and curatorial project EXODUS STATIONS (www.exodusstations.com) on the role of contemporary art for new museology. The project includes curated exhibitions, publications, conferences and research projects (2017: EXODUS STATIONS #1 in Museu Carlos Machado Azores, EXODUS STATIONS #2 and #3 in Iwalewahaus Bayreuth Germany, EXODUS STATIONS #4 at Quai Branly Museum, EXODUS STATIONS # 5 at MuCEM Marseille, EXODUS STATIONS #6 at the Museum of Romanian Peasant and Centre Pompidou, Paris).

Marta Jecu also works as an independent curator. Among her curated exhibitions: 2022 the international group exhibitions ‘Artists, Heritage and The Museum’ and ‘Stone Alive’, both inserted into the Saison France-Portugal, 2021 ‘On Landscape’ at the Romanian Cultural Institute Lisbon, 2019 and 2020 ‘A Cultural Interpretation of Stone’ Part I at Galerie Cabinet d’Ulysse Marseille, Part II at Galeria Sa da Costa, Lisbon. 2018 Solo Show Tadashi Kawamata in MAAT Lisbon, March 2017 – Solo Show George Bodocan Romanian Cultural Institute in Paris and others.

She organised numerous international symposiums in Germany, Portugal and France. In 2015 she curated DEVOUR! Project (Social Cannibalism, Political Redefinition and Architecture) with a series of three exhibitions, conferences, performances in Berlin at Freies Museum and Zentrum Fuer Kunst und Urbanismus (ZKU) Berlin in 2015 and Leipzig. She edited the volumes Marta Jecu (Ed.): Subtle Construction, Bypass, Malmo, Lisbon, 2011; OPEN MONUMENT, Revolver Verlag, Berlin. Her volume Architecture and the Virtual was published in 2016 at University of Chicago Press (U.S.) and Intellect Book (U.K.).
