Frederico Lima
Frederico Moreira is a documentary filmmaker, editor, audiovisual producer, and research fellow on the ROMPANTE/2024.16621.PEX project at CeiED - Universidade Lusófona. He holds a degree in Mass Communication from the Universidade Metodista de São Paulo and works in the fields of social memory, oral history, audiovisual archives, interventionist documentary, scientific communication, and the public dissemination of knowledge.
With over two decades of experience working in Brazil, Portugal, and Latin America, Moreira has developed an audiovisual practice centered on the relationship between image, territory, listening, archives, and political action. Born in São Bernardo do Campo in the ABC region of São Paulo, he connects his documentary work with working-class, peripheral, community, and popular education contexts. He lived in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area in Argentina, where he worked as an audiovisual technician at La Casa, a space for debate and culture. This experience solidified his approach to social intervention filmmaking, DIY audiovisual training, and the collective production of memory.
His work includes directing, editing, filming, post-production, distribution, and archival organization. He specializes in the public circulation of audiovisual materials in educational, cultural, television, community, and heritage contexts. He collaborated with Alípio Freire on the documentary 1964: A Coup Against Brazil. He directed ABAYA | resistência e ancestralidade, which won an award in the "Comunidades Afrodescendentes: Reconhecimento, Justiça e Desenvolvimento" competition organized by IberCultura Viva and UNESCO do Brasil. He is also the co-director of O Sepulcro do Gato Preto, which won the Eder Mazini Award for Editing from the Memorial do Cinema Paulista. He has also participated in audiovisual projects in Argentina and Cuba, including works on political cultures, counterculture, and Latin American social movements.
In Lisbon, he coordinated the Chapitô Audiovisual Archive, founded the cultural association f.garden, and coordinated Rede Memória. Rede Memória is a transnational platform dedicated to creating living community archives, promoting the audiovisual heritage of CPLP countries, and developing methodologies for archiving, audiovisual training, distribution, and the public sharing of social memories.
As part of CeiED and ROMPANTE, he develops the project’s audiovisual component, focusing on oral history interviews, records of scientific activities, metadata organization, transcription, archiving, public communication, and the creation of formats for scientific, educational, television, museum, and regional dissemination.
