Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate a virtual reality program to promote executive functioning in children at school age with learning disabilities. This work will take place in a school with a sample of children aged between 6 and 11 years old identified with learning difficulties, since this kind of situations can increase the child suffering conditions, which can manifest themselves in the psychological, physical, family and social levels.

This study will present two evaluative moments, an initial evaluation before the intervention and a final evaluation after the intervention, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention performed. This intervention is characterized by the presentation of serious games in virtual reality environment, which aim to promote and improve cognitive abilities. In the intervention we present a scenario that includes a virtual school where cognitive tasks will be performed, with the purpose of stimulating cognitive functions, namely memory, attention or reading, and executive functions, like planning or sequencing.

This intervention is expected to have an impact on the executive functioning and academic performance of these children through the acquisition of a more effective behavior regulation capacity through better executive functioning.

The identification and selection of children with learning disabilities to be included in this study will be performed by the school (s) themselves.
