Abstract

The research aims to contribute to greater female visibility of former political prisoners, resistant women and women family members of former political prisoners, collaborating to increase their representation and their memories in museums, namely the National Resistance and Freedom Museum (MNRL ), located in Peniche, Portugal. Since museums are institutions at the service of society and its development, this also refers to the museological duty with issues such as gender equality, one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In this study, considering the relevance of women in the scenario of resistance to the Portuguese fascist regime, the proposal is to gather and analyze reports from former political prisoners, but also from anti-fascist women who have never been arrested and family members of former political prisoners, to highlight the voice and memories of these women at the MNRL. This will be carried out through interviews with these women and joint visits to the MNRL to identify absences in the current expography. At the end, the materials, results and exhibition proposals will be transferred to the MNRL. The study seeks to value female memories in the anti-Salazarist struggle and highlight the importance of the female voice in Portuguese museums.
