Synopsis – [The Awakening of Teacher Associations in Portugal].
It is essential to outline the profile of a professional class whose historical trajectory contributes to identifying its culture in the successive fields in which it has acted. As in other professions, the historical precedents of Teacher Unionism encompass an initial associativist path, during which Teachers free themselves from tendencies towards the expression of merely individual interests and the inability to find common points of economic and deontological interests, leading subsequently to the Unionist path, responsible for defending professional and career interests, while also producing a pedagogical culture originating from school praxis and associated with the epistemological communities that have been established in the meantime.
