The quest for growth and development has unveiled profound inequalities anchored in deficits of equity, inclusion and democratic participation. The UNESCO Global Report entitled “Reimagining our futures together: a new social contract for education”, published in 2021 and informed by a worldwide and open consultation process involving over one million people, aims to catalyse a global debate on how education can shape peaceful, just and sustainable common futures by starting with three essential questions: What should we continue to do? What should we stop doing? What do we need to creatively reinvent?
The Report is not a model to follow, but rather a diverse set of premises that help us, as humanity, to nurture hope for a world with fewer social and cultural divides, based on the recognition of the value of collaborative work and connection among peoples, which enables and articulates a common vision for the public purposes of quality lifelong education.
