50 years since the death of Amílcar Cabral

50 years have passed since the assassination of Amílcar Cabral, a prominent personality in the African liberation struggle and a continuous inspiration in decolonial movements.

The date is marked by several events, from which we highlight:

– Cabral Cycle at Mbongi, opening on 21 January at 2pm, with an exhibition of anti-colonialist pamphlets and mural, introduction to Cabral’s thought with Iva Cabral, and debate on the pluriversality and actuality of Amílcar Cabral’s thought for current struggles with Aurora Almada, Alexssandro Robalo and Davidson Arrumo Gomes. – “Cabral ka murrí” at Associação Cavaleiros de São Brás, on 22 January from 3pm, with documentary screening, round of conversation and presentations on the theme “The 25 April began in Africa”, book stall and poetry session with open mic. We also point out:

– The conference “Amílcar Cabral and the History of the Future” (organised by CES-UC, IHC, in2past and Cultra) took place on 13 and 14 January in the António de Almeida Santos Auditorium in the Assembly of the Republic. The video record of the several sessions is available: opening session, “The colonial war and the liberation fights: memories and silences” and “Amílcar Cabral: life paths and living memory” , conference of Pedro Pires, projection of the film “The return of Cabral” and debate, “Amílcar Cabral: texts” and “Amílcar Cabral: international dimensions of the struggle”, “Amílcar Cabral: politics, culture and utopia” and “Decolonization: meanings and challenges”.

– CIDAC – Centro de Documentação para o Desenvolvimento Amílcar Cabral (Amílcar Cabral Documentation Centre for Development) shares several events and texts on Amílcar Cabral, including the book “Analysis of some types of resistance” by Amílcar Cabral, in a revised and commented edition by Outro Modo in 2020, and the file on Amílcar Cabral organised by the portal Memorial 2019 – Memorial to the Persecuted and Political Prisoners.
