Doctoral College begins discussions on guidance
It was held yesterday, January 12, 2023, in online format, the opening seminar of the Cycle of Discussions for Advisors promoted by the Doctoral College Citizen Science – CeiED. This first activity had as guest Alexander Hasgall, president of the Council for Doctoral Education, of the European University Association – EUA-CDE, who presented a conference entitled ‘Doctoral supervision in European context. Current developments and future perspectives’.
In his presentation, Alexander Hasgall outlined a broad profile of the debate on the topic of guidance, based on his work at the head of the Council since 2017 and on the reports produced by the EUA-CDE with the contributions of the 272 institutions, from 38 countries, that are currently part of this body. Topics were discussed such as co-guidance, guidance in local or international teams, new types of guidance, the challenges of guidance in the face of the complexity of doctoral training in current times, among others. The guest also presented the results of the latest surveys conducted among the Universities that integrate the EUA-CDE, in which guidance appears as the highest priority for the next 10 years.
The next activity of the Cycle of Debates will take place on 23 February, from 4pm to 6pm, online. The topic of discussion will be the Institutional Context of CeiED’s PhDs and will have as speaker the Scientific Director of the Doctoral College and CeiED, Professor António Teodoro. This workshop has mandatory registration.
