Following the meeting of the Council of Science and Education Policy Centres, held on 4 January 2022, a statement was drafted on the Ministry of Education’s document entitled “Initial Teacher Education”, sent to CRUP and CCISP at the end of the XXII Government. The statement was sent last April 1st, to the Minister of Education, João Costa, with a request for a working meeting to know the Ministry’s strategy to tackle the problem in the short, medium and long term and, also, to know how the knowledge in the area of Educational Sciences, gathered in the R&D centres, can contribute to a well-founded political decision and a relevant and quality training action.

The writing of the document was coordinated by Maria Assunção Flores from the Research Centre in Child Studies (CIEC, University of Minho) and collected contributions from the sixteen Research Centres in Education Sciences and Policies accredited by FCT.
