In the context of a recent concern with extra-European heritage, with the history of museology and colonial and postcolonial thought linked to it, contemporary art it becomes an important tool for rethinking the way museums display information. An exhibition of contemporary art at the Museu de Historia Natural de Lisboa raises questions of museological criticism and aims to reflect on the ‘museological device’ and how it functions as a media’ for reading historic information. This project is understood as an exercise for the development of versatile solutions and new information transmission devices that can be implemented in museums. It also intends to impact children and adults, through an educational program, developed with students from the Museology Department at Universidade Lusofona.
The project consists of the following activities:
- An exhibition in February 2022 at the Natural History Museum, on ‘the museological disposition’.
- A critical and inclusive educational program (which accompanies the exhibition) with the participation of students from the Museology department at Universidade Lusofona.
- A conference with researchers and students from Universidade Lusofona at the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme in May 2022 in Paris, France.
- A performative conference at the High Art Gallery in Arles, France, June 2022.
- A publication on sociomuseology and contemporary art, scheduled for June 2023.
