On December, Lusófona University, in Lisbon, hosted the training session “Communication and Education for Sustainability”, coordinated by Inês Vieira,

as part of the project MUBIESUS – Public Science and Educational Pathways for Sustainability in Museums and Libraries in Lisbon and São Paulo.

The event brought together educators, in-service teachers, and cultural mediators from museums and libraries in both Lisbon and São Paulo, fostering an international exchange of ideas and experiences around the challenges and opportunities of sustainability in educational and cultural settings.

Throughout the discussions, participants highlighted the essential role of cultural spaces as active agents in promoting sustainability, not only as sites of cultural engagement but also as platforms for education and civic participation. The importance of culture as a pillar of democracy was emphasized, with reflections on how early cultural experiences are often shaped within the family environment. The need for active community participation in cultural creation and dissemination was also stressed.

Several innovative projects focused on environmental well-being and community empowerment were presented, with particular emphasis on the inclusion of young people as key actors in advancing sustainability and active citizenship.

By promoting initiatives such as this, the MUBIESUS project contributes to an education aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the broader objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
