Roda Viva

Supported by the creation of a multimedia learning space and bicycle use - with a focus on audiovisual and active mobility - driven by an informal group of young and creative locals, an itinerant film festival will be created, produced, and programmed participatively with the community. The themes of the work will focus on urban mobility, territorial cohesion, and the right to the city, enhancing the dynamics and existing facilities in the territories under consideration. The dynamics and platforms created will continue to be fueled with new themes and approaches, driving subsequent editions of the festival. The multimedia space/local bike network created, as well as the workshops and discussion sessions, will continue to be energized, contributing to the education (through non-formal approaches) of the local young population. The equipment created and acquired will remain at the service of the community for new emerging dynamics.

This project is associated with the ReLeCo Socio-Artistic Studies for Decoloniality and Sustainability and with the Public Science Forum.

Objectives

The project aims to promote the right to the city through cultural and territorial practices created and energized by the participation of the residents themselves. To achieve this, it proposes to work with the younger population through dynamics that are already recognized in the territories in terms of audiovisual creation and event production, as well as active mobility in the enjoyment of these spaces.

By organizing a cinema event based in these territories, the proposal is to unite the themes of audiovisual production and active mobility, emphasizing the possibilities of artistic expression and identification with spaces within and outside the neighborhoods, which are already present there, especially for the younger population.

The aim is to create meeting spaces between regions of the city, taking into account the geographical situation of the neighborhoods, which, due to urban planning and built infrastructure, have become isolated 'islands' from other urban areas, including central Lisbon, which is very close geographically, and where most of the city's cultural offerings are located.

This proposal contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2020, being directly in line with goals 10 - Reduced Inequalities, 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities, and 13 - Climate Action. Following national and international guidelines on mobility with a focus on active mobility, sustainability, and accessibility, the proposal aims to expand existing discussions and activities in the territory so that they can have a greater presence and effectiveness in the residents' travel practices and in the approach to territories.

All phases will be based on participatory processes of discussion and collaborative programming of activities, seeking continuously to contribute to the increase of social cohesion, the improvement of community relations, and the valorization of each territory's strengths.
