Maria Soledad Socas
Maria Socas was born in Buenos Aires. Between 1990-1995 she studied sculpture at the “Escuela Nacional de Arte”. She has lived in Lisbon since 1997, where she worked as an art teacher in schools, in several cultural centers, at the Claparede Special Education School, at Clínica do Parque and in vulnerable neighbourhoods with children, young people and adults.
She also developed painting, sculpture, tile restoration and scenography.
In 2010 she returned to Argentina, where in 2012 she completed a postgraduate degree in Art Therapy at the “Universidad Nacional de las Artes”.
She participated in exhibitions both in Portugal and in Buenos Aires. Between 2012-2020 she worked in the social neighbourhoods of the City of Buenos Aires, where she coordinated art studios (painting, drawing, murals, sculpture) and art therapy studios.
Between 2013-15 she won an art therapy research scholarship at the “Universidad Nacional de las Artes”, specialising in working with people undergoing rehabilitation due to prolonged drug use. In 2018-19 she worked in prisons for teenagers in the City of Buenos Aires.
In 2019-20s he studied and completed the specialisation “Epistemologies of the South”, the result of a partnership between CLACSO (Argentina) and the CES of the University of Coimbra (Portugal).
Since 2014 to date, she has coordinated practical-theoretical seminars at the “Universidad Nacional de las Artes”, on the following themes: “A look at the creative process, identity and subjectivity .Art therapy.” Since 2021, she has coordinated weekly art-therapeutic groups. She is a member of the ReLeCo Socio-Artistic Studies for Decoloniality and Sustainability.
