Abstract

Radio is the dominant means of communication in Angola, with greater reach in relation to television, newspapers and other media. Radio has proven to be a tool for human, social and economic development; dissemination and access to information, particularly for rural communities.

Radio “has the crucial mission of making publicly available, the information necessary for a full citizen assessment of the contours of economic, social, cultural and political realities and the actions that shape it” (Barreiros, 2010, p 23). The interest in studying this theme arose in order to show the extent to which Radio can contribute to the development of Education in rural areas of Angola (socially, culturally, politically and economically).

To speak of communication in the African context is to speak of the radio, especially in the community and the languages they use so that their messages reach the population. Local dialects, in the specific case of Angola and in the African context, constitute a determining instrument in the communication used by radio and have played an important role in informing and training communities.
