On January 20, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the webinar Universidade Comunitária no Brasil: características e desafios de um modelo público não estatal will take place.

This online event will present the Brazilian community model of higher education, addressing its origins, legal framework, and its main institutional characteristics, with an emphasis on regional action. Challenges and tensions faced by this model in the context of the commodification of higher education in Brazil will also be discussed.

The webinar will feature Olmiro Schaeffer from the University of Passo Fundo, Brazil, who is developing a Post-Doctoral project at the Lusófona University titled “Quantidade, qualidade e equidade na educação superior: um olhar sobre os modelos institucionais no Brasil e em Portugal”, under the supervision of Professor Cristina Sin.
