1st Conference on Educational Sciences - Social Education

On 26 March 2025, the José Araújo Auditorium at Universidade Lusófona - Centro Universitário Lisboa (UL-CUL) hosted the first Conference on Educational Sciences - Social Education, a joint initiative of the Degree in Educational Sciences - Social Education (LCE-ES) and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development (CeiED).

The event brought together students, teachers and representatives of co-operating institutions to discuss the challenges and opportunities experienced during the internship period. The session was opened by Professor António Teodoro, Director of the Institute of Education, who welcomed and congratulated the organisers of the event, the professors: Carla Galego, Director of LCE-ES, Teresa Ramilho and Dulce Franco, both LCE-ES Curricular Internship supervisors, as well as the students Liliana Ferro and Raquel Teixeira.

Among the participants, the testimonies of the heads of the two institutions that receive the student interns stood out. Sandra Nascimento - General Secretary of APSI - Associação para a Promoção e Segurança Infantil (Association for the Promotion and Safety of Children) - emphasised the importance of the internship in developing the skills of future professionals. ‘APSI is fertile ground, through its community projects, for identifying and developing the work of interns, future social educators in the community,’ she said.

At the closing ceremony, Tânia Leite and Verónica Almeida, from UL-CUL's EVA Internships and Active Life Service, emphasised the importance of curricular internships, the international mobility of students and the support they provide to students during their internships.

One of the moments of the event was the convivial Coffee Break, provided by volunteers from CIDAC, the Amílcar Cabral development intervention centre, through the Comercio Justo shop.

 The participants also emphasised the importance of continuing the Jornadas em Ciências da Educação -Educação Social as a space for critical reflection on pedagogical practices, promoting theoretical deepening and improving the articulation between theory and practice in the training of future education professionals, ‘THE SOCIAL EDUCATOR’.
