CeiED coordinates panel at the 11th Iberian Congress of African Studies “African Transits in the Global World: History and Memories, Inheritances and Innovations

CeiED/ULHT, through two of its Research and Learning Communities, ReLeCo NEA-ES: Nucleus of African Studies – Education and Society and ReLeCo CEM: Culture(s), Education and Memory(s), will coordinate the “Panel 25 – The collective and social function of education in Lusophone Africa and Portugal – Historical and contemporary perspectives of teacher training”, of the 11th Iberian Congress of African Studies “African Transits in the Global World: History and Memories: Inheritance and Innovation” (CIEA11), which will take place between July 6 and 8, 2022. Congresso Ibérico de Estudos Africanos “Trânsitos Africanos no Mundo Global: História e Memórias, Heranças e Inovações” (CIEA11), which will take place between July 6 and 8, 2022, between 09:00 and 10:30, at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon.
The Iberian Congress of African Studies (CIEA), organized by the History Center of the University of Lisbon (CH-ULisboa), began in 1991 and held its 10th edition in 2018, in Granada, organized by AFRICAInEs: Investigación y Estudios Aplicados al Desarollo, University of Granada. Since its inception, CIEA has established itself “as a singular space for meeting, sharing and questioning on Iberian and international academic production in the field of African Studies” (CIEA11).
The Organizing Committee of CIEA11 includes professors and researchers of the University of Lisbon and the Scientific Committee includes professors and researchers from higher education institutions and research centers from different countries, such as Portugal, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Spain, and the Canary Islands. Panel coordinators and speakers also come from different institutions, such as the Amílcar Cabral Center for Social Studies, the Lusophone University, the University of Coimbra, the Amílcar Cabral University of Guinea-Bissau, the Higher Institute of Educational Sciences of Huíla, Angola the Higher Institute of Education and Communication of the University of São Tomé and Príncipe, the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain, the Eduardo Mondlane University of Mozambique, the Agostinho Neto University of Angola, and the Center for African Studies at the School of Economics and Management (ISEG-UL), the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and the University of Oxford.
CIEA11 includes in its program plenary sessions, roundtables and simultaneous sessions of panels proposed by the participants under the theme of the Congress. A final plenary session is planned to discuss the creation of an Iberian Association of African Studies.
As part of the internationalization strategy of CeiED/ULHT, promoted by its Director, Professor António Teodoro, through the promotion of research on education and development and the participation of CeiED in regional and global networks, the researchers Maria Neves Gonçalves, Coordinator of ReLeCo Culture(s), Education and Memory(s), and Arlinda Cabral, Coordinator of ReLeCo Núcleo de Estudos Africanos – Educação e Sociedade, will coordinate Panel 25, which will take place on July 7, between 09:00 and 10:30, in Room C015, Faculty of Letters, where papers will be presented by researchers from CeiED and other higher education institutions, focusing on Regulation and innovation of initial teacher training in Portuguese-speaking countries.
