16 december 2024

On December 6, 2024, Universidade Lusófona (Centro Universitário de Lisboa) hosted the "Communication and Education for Sustainability" training, an event that attracted over 80 participants, both in person and online. The goal of the training was to promote a practical and theoretical approach to sustainability, focusing on communication and education for sustainability, involving educators, library and museum mediators, as well as in-service teachers.

The training was led by science journalist and climate justice activist Joana Guerra Tadeu, who shared her knowledge and experience with participants, addressing tools and strategies for effectively communicating about sustainability in various educational contexts.

The initiative also included the participation of CIDAC – Centro de Intervenção para o Desenvolvimento Amílcar Cabral, which offered a "fair break", and BLX – Bibliotecas de Lisboa, which provided an institutional perspective on the topic. Additionally, the contribution of Ecoparque da Escola Municipal de Ensino Fundamental Philó from São Paulo was included, with student sessions that further strengthened the connection between the two cities focused on the project.

The training is part of the MUBIESUS – Public science and educational paths towards sustainability in museums and libraries in Lisbon and São Paulo project, coordinated by Inês Vieira, which seeks to understand the expectations of in-service teacher training and explore how museums and libraries can become spaces for education and communication focused on sustainability.

The MUBIESUS project, funded by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, was developed in partnership with BLX – Bibliotecas de Lisboa and the Plano Nacional das Artes. During the event, participants had the opportunity to actively engage in discussions about pathways for promoting sustainable and inclusive practices both in their classrooms and cultural spaces.

Updates on the project can be followed through the official Instagram profile: @mubiesus.

The training was free of charge and saw great participation, reflecting the growing interest in integrating sustainability into educational and cultural practices.
