CeiED Researchers Publish Article in Frontiers in Education
11 march 2025
CeiED researchers Louise dos Santos Lima, Alcina de Oliveira Martins,
Elsa Estrela, and Rosa Serradas Duarte have published an article in the prestigious journal Frontiers in Education, entitled Challenges posed to leadership: systematic review based on the relationships between curricular autonomy and teachers’ well-being.
The study is part of an interdisciplinary project analysing the relationship between curricular autonomy and teacher well-being within the framework of Portuguese educational policies since 2016. Through a systematic review of official documents and independent studies, the results highlight that collaborative leadership practices and policies that promote teacher autonomy contribute to more inclusive teaching and improved teacher well-being. However, challenges such as bureaucratisation and excessive workload continue to negatively impact teachers’ daily lives.
The article reinforces the importance of an innovative and collaborative school environment, emphasising the need for continuous institutional support so that educational leaders can implement effective and sustainable policies.
The study is available for reading on the Frontiers in Education website. Read the article here.
