XVI Socio-Museology Week and XVI Seminar on Research in Sociomuseology

The XVI Socio-Museology Week is currently underway (until Saturday 20 February 2025). The annual meeting, promoted by the Museology Department and with the support of CeiED, is in its 16th edition and has been a success, with numerous activities available until Saturday (22 February 2025).
The XVI Sociomuseology Week began on 11 February 2025 with the opening session led by Mário Moutinho, Judite Primo and Adel Igor Pausini. The first day also included a lecture by Leonardo Mellado and the ‘Gira on Social Museology’ with Mário Chagas, as well as presentations by the Department of Museology, the UNESCO Chair and the CeiED.
On the following days, the INOMPOR Project, the ‘SocioMuseology + Paulo Freire’ Study Group and the AGRRIN Project were presented, as well as the inauguration of the exhibition ‘{About} Living, Liberating, Resisting: Being Hip-Hop’.
The 2nd International Conference of the Social Museology Committee (SOMUS/ICOM) took place on 13 and 14 February, including a technical visit. On the 15th, there was a presentation of post-doctoral research, a book launch and The round table discussion on the ICOM Code of Ethics.
On 17 February, the doctoral jury began, with the defence of Gabriela Coronado Téllez's thesis, and the XVI Research Seminar in Sociomuseology kicked off.
From 18 to 22 February, the event will feature doctoral juries from various research projects, covering topics such as the musealisation of archaeology, community museums in schools, peripheral territorialities and sociomuseology applied to university collections.
At the same time, the XVI Seminar on Research in Sociomuseology is taking place (from 18 to 20 February), providing a space for in-depth discussion on methodologies and current challenges in the field.
On 21 February, classes are scheduled dedicated to Museology and Contemporary Issues, given by recognised experts.
The event culminates on the 22 February, with a closing get-together, promoting a moment of sharing between participants and consolidating the spirit of collaboration and academic exchange.
